Doctoral Program Recognition Standards
The American Alternative Medical Association (AAMA) recognizes select doctoral-level educational programs that align with the professional standards of integrative and alternative medicine.
While AAMA is not a governmental accrediting agency, recognized programs are reviewed to ensure they reflect the level of academic rigor, professional preparation, and ethical foundation expected within the AAMA community.
Recognition Framework
Doctoral programs are evaluated based on the following core areas:
Curriculum Depth
Programs must demonstrate advanced academic content appropriate to professional doctoral education, including both theoretical and applied learning.
Instructional Hours
Programs should include substantial instructional and clinical or practical training hours consistent with doctoral-level expectations.
Faculty Qualifications
Faculty must possess appropriate academic credentials, professional experience, or recognized expertise within their discipline.
Program Outcomes
Programs should prepare graduates for:
- Professional practice in their field
- Adherence to ethical and professional standards
- Ongoing continuing education and development
AAMA Doctoral Program Recognition
AAMA maintains a directory of doctoral programs in holistic, integrative, and alternative medicine that have voluntarily submitted their program information for review.
Recognition indicates that a program’s educational focus aligns with the professional disciplines represented within AAMA and supports pathways toward membership and board certification.
Recognition does not constitute governmental accreditation or guarantee certification eligibility.
Benefits for Recognized Programs
Recognized programs may:
- Be listed in the AAMA Doctoral Program Directory
- Demonstrate alignment with a national professional association
- Provide students with clear post-graduate pathways
- Participate in future collaboration and visibility opportunities
For Students & Graduates
Graduates of recognized programs may choose to pursue:
- AAMA Professional Membership
- Board Certification in applicable specialties
- Continued professional development within the AAMA community
Completion of a recognized program does not automatically grant certification but supports alignment with AAMA professional standards.
